NEW GOLDEN EGG ACADEMY branch to open in Wales and the South West

Published Mon 23 Jul 2018 - By Literature Wales
Budding children’s writers in Wales and the South West of England are to be offered the chance to join a new wing of the highly successful Golden Egg Academy.

And the Academy is thrilled to announce that Penny Thomas, the Publisher at Firefly Press, will be heading up the new Wales and South West Golden Egg Academy satellite, beginning in January 2019.

This is the third UK branch of Golden Egg to open after London: run by Founder Director Imogen Cooper, (ex-Editorial Director for Chicken House) and Manchester: led by GEA North Programme Leader Tilda Johnson, (former Senior Commissioning Editor for Hot Key).

SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) Wales will be hosting the launch of GEA Wales and South West in Cardiff, on July 29, with Penny Thomas and Imogen Cooper.

Imogen Cooper said, ‘I’m delighted to be working with Penny Thomas. She’s a terrific editor and I have greatly admired her drive to create Firefly Press. We’ve been waiting to find someone experienced who shares our values to head up this new wing of Golden Egg and Penny certainly does that. We’re delighted to be able to offer courses in Cardiff for aspiring authors from Wales and the South West. Not everyone finds travel to London easy! We are continuing to look for experienced structural editors and self-starters in other areas of the UK and the world as I am firm in the belief that every talented writer deserves high-quality traditional editorial support.’

Penny Thomas said, ‘This is a very exciting development for potential children’s writers in this part of the UK and I’m delighted to be a part of it. The Golden Egg Academy is innovative and ambitious in scope and has a great track record, with so much to offer aspiring writers.’
