Arts Council of Wales has announced the names of artists from across the arts disciplines that will receive a Creative Wales Award.

Following an awards presentation held in HYST, Swansea last night, Literature Wales is delighted to hear that two of the prestigious Creative Wales awards went to poet & Young People’s Laureate for Wales, Sophie McKeand and Author & Literature Wales Board Member, Eric Ngalle Charles.

The annual Creative Wales Awards offer up to £25,000 to enable artists to take time to experiment, innovate, and take forward their work. The aim is to develop excellence by offering a period of research and development to some of Wales’s most interesting artists.

Sophie McKeand is an award winning poet and the current Young People’s Laureate Wales. She will use the award to expand her practice into new territory by undertaking a shamanic exploration of Deep Listening that will see her collaborate with practitioners across Wales, England, Ireland and India.

Eric Ngalle Charles‘ Creative Wales awards will help to explore and carry out extensive research on Migration, Memory and Trauma. He intends to write five converging stories, five plays and a digital exhibition based on these themes.  He will also create a film on trans-generational trauma.
