Get Creative with Football
We’ll always be true
We’ll always be blue
We are a City as one
Get Creative with Football was inspired by Roald Dahl’s recollections of visiting Cardiff City Football Club as a young boy, experiencing the magic of a football match for the first time.
Dads and lads from across South East Wales enjoyed a bespoke backstage tour of Cardiff City Stadium with poet Mike Church and Literacy Co-ordinator for Cardiff City Community Foundation, Tom Knight. The tour explored dressing rooms, conference spaces and the laundry – which to the amazement of the adults more than the children, washes over 500 items daily! The group also had the opportunity to stand in the Managers box and sit in the owners chair.
Carter Films, in partnership with Ffilm Cymru, created a film of the project – Inspiration, My First Match – which was screened to over 13,000 people during half time at the Cardiff City v Leeds match.
You can watch Inspiration, My First Match in full (five minutes) here:
Feedback from participants included:
“My son and I had a fantastic 3 days with the Literature Wales CCFC project. The project was well organised, well pitched for the children and very inspirational for me and my son. Thank you.”
“Really enjoyed the experience and gave my son an opportunity to see things that he wouldn’t normally see. It’s been fantastic.”
“A brilliant collaboration between us all. It was amazing to see the kids fully engage with Mike who created an amazing poem. A project everyone can be proud of.”
