Tŷ Newydd is soon to celebrate it’s 21st birthday as the National Writers’ Centre for Wales. Head to Llanystumdwy for a weekend of writing, performances, food, drink and music to look back at Ty Newydd’s achievements, and forward to a new era of dynamic literary activity.

Here's what's happening for the weekend celebrations:

Saturday 4 September

1.30 pm
Opening of the celebrations: Gillian Clarke, President of Tŷ Newydd and Arwel Jones, Chair of the Taliesin Trust.

2.00 pm
The Laureates: Gillian Clarke, Carol Ann Duffy and Mererid Hopwood.

3.00 pm
Translators’ House Wales presents
• Gillian Clarke and Menna Elfyn read and discuss their translations of each other’s poems.
• Welsh and Panjabi poetry: Menna Elfyn and Mazhar Tirmazi, the Pakistani born Panjabi poet, read and talk about their poetry.
• Presentation to the English language winner of the Translators’ House Wales Oxfam 2010 Challenge.

Cynghanedd: Karen Owen asks 5 generations of Welsh poets what inspired them to write cynghanedd (simultaneous translation available).

6.00 pm
Launch of ‘The Listening Shell’: An Anthology of Poems for Tŷ Newydd.

8.30 pm
Pluo’r Awen: Cynan Jones strives to control four teams as they battle it out with poems, songs, and stories.

Sunday 5 September

9.15 am
Moths and Fungi: Nigel Brown discovers what kind of moths have been caught in the overnight traps. Followed by launch of Natur Cymru’s writing competition – ‘Inspired by Nature’.

10.00 am
Nature Walk (English) with Nigel Brown
Fungus Foray (Welsh) with Cynan Jones

12.00 noon
Writing the Landscape: Jim Perrin & Niall Griffiths read and discuss their work.

12.00 noon
‘Fy Lôn Wen I’: 5 personal presentations in verse, prose, music and song to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of Dr Kate Roberts, the ‘Queen of Welsh literature’.

1.00 pm
