Services for Writers
Literature Wales runs three services which can assist writer development: Writers’ Bursaries, Mentoring and the Critical Service.
Literature Wales can offer support to both new and established writers through its Writers’ Bursaries scheme. Bursaries are awarded for literary excellence in a competitive scheme, and are awarded to writers creating new work in the following genres: fiction (novels and short stories), graphic novels, poetry, creative non-fiction (including literary criticism, biography, autobiography), children’s literature and young adult fiction. There is an annual deadline for Bursaries.
The Literature Wales Mentoring Scheme offers support and practical advice to writers who show outstanding promise; those whose work publishers have already expressed an interest in. This scheme is designed to help writers develop that work to a publishable standard, through a series of one-to-one sessions with a mentor. There is an annual closing date for applications.
The Literature Wales Critical Service enables applicants to have their unpublished work read and assessed by an experienced writer or creative writing tutor. The reader will produce a report of about 1,000 words on the literary quality of the work.
Literature Wales Writers’ Bursaries and the Mentoring Scheme are supported by The National Lottery through the Arts Council of Wales.
