NLW Digitisation Proposals
Rhodri Glyn Thomas’ Response
20 November 2007
Dear Mr Reynolds
Thank you for your letter dated 22 October to Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM, Minister for Heritage. As Director of CyMAL: Museums Archives and Libraries Wales I have been asked to reply.
The National Library of Wales has secured a grant of £652,289k from the UK Joint Information Systems Committee to develop this innovative project which aims to preserve and widen access to Welsh resources. I note the concerns of the authors who have signed the letter regarding the question of additional payments being made to copyright holders when works are digitised. I understand that Andrew Green, Librarian of the National Library of Wales has responded confirming that copyright holders will be able to withhold their work if required when material is digitised.
Thank you for taking the time to write to the Minister on this issue.
Yours sincerely
Linda Tomos
Director CyMAL
