Writers’ Day
at Dylan Thomas Centre

Thursday 16 June
Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea
10.00 am - 6.00 pm
Free but ticketed
Some of Wales’ brightest writing talents, from poets to playwrights, will be gathering at Swansea’s Dylan Thomas Centre on Thursday 16 June to share tips, thoughts and opinions about the writing life and its pleasures and challenges.
Among those taking part in the Writers’ Day will be prize-winning poet Menna Elfyn and new writers Roshi Fernando, whose novel Homesick interweaves tales about Tamil exiles, and Tracey Warr, who brings the medieval world most vividly to life in The Peaceweaver. Dramatists Lucy Gough and D.J. Britton will be trading ideas while best-selling author James Hawes will be warning about the perils of adaptation. Mick Felton from Seren Books and literary agent Euan Thorneycroft will be talking about what’s in, who’s out and what’s going to happen to publishing in the digital age.
There will be also be a one-woman show, Ac Mae’n Dawel by Sian Price, the launch of new Parthian anthology The Month Had 32 Days, an end-of-day bookshop and plenty of sparkling conversation.
Menna Elfyn, who runs the MA course in Creative Writing at Trinity St David said: "Oscar Wilde once quipped that when bankers meet for dinner they talk about art and when artists come together they talk about money. We can do both in this writing day as we celebrate good words as they’re used for the stage, put in print and woven into conversation."
Following the Writers’ Day, Fluellen Theatre Co will present extracts from drama by Swansea University MA students, in the second of two ‘Rough Diamonds’ evenings.
The creative writing departments of Swansea University and University of Wales Trinity St David, Carmarthen have organised this free event, in conjunction with the Dragon Innovation Partnership. They are inviting the public to join them for a day that is pretty much guaranteed to be stimulating.
