It is once again time for the annual Planet article competition:

Main Prize: £250 plus publication in Planet

Prize for Young Writers: £150 plus publication in Planet

Writers under 30 can choose whether to submit their article for the main Prize or for the young writers Prize. The two winning articles will also feature on the Planet and Academi websites.

Articles can be on any Welsh or international issue you feel strongly about. Topics can be from any field and from any angle, and they also welcome those from overlapping fields of interest: eg politics, economics, history, the environment, philosophy, science, social issues, arts criticism or policy. Planet are looking for articles that are in-depth and challenging yet accessible to the non-specialist reader, and are open to work that approaches structure or style in different and imaginative ways.

Entries should be in English but you are welcome to submit articles on Welsh language issues or culture.

Competition rules:
Articles should be submitted anonymously. Please mark your envelope 'Planet Article Competition' and you must enclose a separate sealed envelope with your name, address and email/telephone number inside. Please note on your submission if you would like to be considered for the Prize for Young Writers.

Submissions should be in the form of typed hard copy. Only one article per person will be accepted. Winning entries may be subject to editing. The articles should be maximum 2500 words.

Send your submission to:
Planet, PO Box 44, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, SY23 3ZZ.

Closing Date: Monday 26 July 2010

The articles will be judged by the Planet editorial team and the winner will be announced in the Autumn issue. The judges’ decision is final. Planet is published with the support of the Welsh Books Council.
