50th Anniversary of A Kind of Loving

July 2010 will mark 50 years since the publication of Academi Fellow Stan Barstow’s novel A Kind of Loving. To coincide with this significant anniversary Parthian Books are bringing out a new edition of the cult classic which has over the years been adapted for the screen, stage and radio.
In addition to Parthian's publication of A Kind of Loving BBC Radio 4 will also broadcast a new adaptation by Academi Member Diana Griffiths on Woman's Hour. A Kind of Loving will be played daily on Woman's Hour over 10, fifteen minute, episodes. Episodes 1-5 will be broadcast from 12 – 16 July at 10.45 am. Episodes 6-10 will be broadcast from 19 - 23 July at the same time. All episodes will be repeated in the evening.
A tale of love, lust and loneliness, A Kind of Loving tells the story of Vic Brown a young working-class Yorkshireman. Vic is attracted to the beautiful but demanding Ingrid. As their relationship grows and changes he comes to terms, the hard way, with adult life and what it really means to love. A Kind of Loving laid the ground for contemporary writers such as Tony Parsons and Nick Hornby to develop what has become known as "lad-lit".
