An opportunity for writers to relax, write, think and talk
their way through a long slow autumn weekend.
Poet, novelist and short story writer, Deborah Kay Davies, will lead the 2010 Academi Writers Retreat at Clynfyw Cottages in Pembrokeshire this autumn.
Deborah Kay Davies won the Wales Book of The Year award in 2009 with her collection of short stories Grace, Tamar and Lazlo the Beautiful (Parthian) and her debut novel entitled Things about me (Canon gate Books Ltd) is due for publication in 2010. She has a Masters degree in the Teaching and Practice of Creative Writing and a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from Cardiff University, where she also taught Creative Writing.
As well as leading workshops on both the Saturday and Sunday mornings, Deborah will also talk to course members individually on Saturday afternoon. There will also be open readings on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The retreat includes an introductory lecture by Jim Bowen, author of Just Another Mzungu Passing Through (Parthian, 2008). His family have farmed the area since 1750 and he will talk about writing and roots.
The retreat will be held at Clynfyw Cottages, located just eight miles from the Cardigan Bay coastline. The cottages are self contained and consist of single and twin bedrooms.
Fee: £125.00 (single room occupancy), £85.00 / £75.00 for Academi Members and Associates (sharing a twin room). Fee includes: Friday night supper, three meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Please Note: Places are strictly limited, early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
