Write for Life Prisons Project

alt

Academi is pleased to be continuing the Write for Life Prisons Project for another year across the five prisons in south Wales, thanks to further funding from the Welsh Assembly Government. The appointment of new Project Manager Sarah Richards and an additional Project Officer Sereta Martin will hopefully see the project leap forward in the coming months.

The Write for Life Prisons Project gives prisoners the opportunity to work with professional writers and attend workshops in order to boost creativity and learning. The aim of the project is to help those prisoners have a better opportunity in their lives, with improved reading and writing skills.

The current project will be running in Cardiff, Parc, Prescoed, Swansea and Usk prisons. The success of last year’s project has allowed the project to continue for another year and Academi will be running a range of workshops within the prisons to capture creativity. Workshops will be running from the end of June 2010 to March 2011.

The Write for Life Prisons Project will engage prisoners in a range of writing activities - some also linking to drama, art and music - to encourage prisoners to be creative. If you think this challenging yet highly rewarding environment is something you would like to be involved in, please contact Academi and let us know.
