Summer Storytelling from Beyond the Border

2010 sees not just the return of the Beyond the Border Storytelling Festival but a course and several events throughout the summer on the Glanfa Stage.

This pre - festival course is intended for those who want to tell stories as performance or in workplace or community settings. The course will be practical, focusing on the key skills and attitudes required to tell stories effectively and develop a unique voice. There will be ample opportunity to work on individual stories and tell in small and large groups as well as receive constructive and focused feedback.

Michael Harvey is one of the UK’s leading contemporary storytellers and has led many training programmes both in the UK and internationally. Course places limited so early booking is advised.

Britain’s leading international storytelling festival returns to the fairy-tale setting of St Donats Castle on the South Wales coast for another weekend dedicated to celebrating the world’s heritage of traditional stories.

Authors, storytellers and musicians taking part include Chirine El Ansary, Jan Blake, Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara, Sianed Davies, Xanthe Gresham, Ben Haggarty, Michael Harvey, Robert Irwin, Armenia’s Kotchnak Ensemble, Hugh Lupton, Daniel Morden, Georgia’s Mteibi Choir, Chris Wood and many more. This year’s themes include 1001 Nights, African Scatterlings and Tales to Sustain. The festival also hosts market stalls, international cuisine and morning story walks.

To coincide with Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet in the WMC’s Main House, master storyteller Richard Berry joins Japanese koto player Hiroko Sue for a performance in words and music of the original Romeo & Juliet story, together with other tales of romance, passion and intrigue.
