July’s Word Up event will feature readings from Sixty Poems for Haiti (Cane Arrow Press, 2009).
This poetry anthology of responses to the crisis in Haiti is the brainchild of Elly Niland and award-winning, Guyanese-British poet Maggie Harris who is now based in Wales.

The collection comprises of poems from authors ranging in age from 12 to 89 and located in the West Indies, UK, Ireland and Europe. Some contributors are seasoned poets, some beginners; the only brief given was to send a poem for Haiti. Cane Arrow Press, the publisher of the collection, was set up in 2009 to promote the poetry of Trinidad and Tobago.

Readings will be from Maggie and some other contributors, and there will be open mic slots for poems on a similar theme. Word Up is hosted by Simone Mansell Broome.
