Crowned Poet Iwan Llwyd

Crowned poet Iwan Llwyd died 52 years old on Friday 28 May 2010.
Born in Llanidloes, he was educated at Ysgol y Friars, Bangor and the University of Wales Aberystwyth.
He published many books, including Dan Ddylanwad – Cerddi ‘Mericia, Canada a Chymru (Tâf, 1997) which won Wales Book of the Year 1998. His collection of poetry, Hanner Cant (Tâf, 2007) was on Wales Book of the Year Long List 2008.
The highlight of his literary career was winning the crown at the National Eisteddfod in 1990 for his collection of poetry, Gwreichion (Sparks).
He contributed regularly to Welsh literary magazines such as Barn and Barddas, and he was a popular contender in poetry competitions such as Talwrn y Beirdd and the Stomp.
He wrote for the television and theatre and he was also a musician. Iwan was a member of several bands, including Geraint Lovgreen a’r Enw Da, Steve Eaves a’r Driawd and Y Bechgyn Drwg.
