Sally Spedding from Ammanford has won First Prize in the Poetry category of the International Aesthetica Creative Works Competition with her poem Den.

The competition is hosted by Aesthetica Magazine, the British-based bi-monthly arts and culture publication, which covers visual art, film, music, literature and theatre.

Aesthetica editor, Cherie Federico has been delighted by the quality of entries this year: “As this competition has developed, I have been excited by the sheer quality of entries from around the globe. The Aesthetica Creative Works Competition is supporting new and emerging artists, and through this we are able to see artistic innovation and trends as they emerge. It’s a very engaging publication, which inspires me every time I read it.”

Competition entries were submitted from over 30 countries including: the USA, Canada, South Africa and Japan, Brazil and Russia, providing the opportunity for international artists to have real exposure through Aesthetica’s audience, and Sally is about to enjoy this exposure having won from 96 finalists.

With three categories for artwork, poetry and fiction, the Aesthetica Competition was judged by Cherie Federico, Creative Writing lecturer Dr Kate North, and freelance Editor, Rachel Hazelwood. Cherie Federico says: “I know that I can speak for all the judges, by stating that the quality of entries was exceptional, and this Prize is gaining not only in momentum, but in worldwide recognition. It’s very exciting to see what 2010 will bring.”
