Writing in Health and Social Care
Tŷ Newydd Courses for Spring 2010

 Ty Newydd

Writing Together Workshop with Graham Hartill
29 - 31 January 2010
Fee: £245 (single room), £215 (shared room)

Although we tend to think of writing as a solitary activity, this weekend workshop will involve writing both alone and with others. How can we make collaborative writing? How can a group poem allow individual voices to be heard? How can a group find a common voice? The course will be of particular interest to anyone working as teachers or in the health and social care professions, but also to any writers keen to discover the pleasures of writing as a social activity. Using writing games and exercises, we will explore a variety of themes and approaches, casting an eye over songs, poems and stories from very different cultures as well as precedents from modern western writing. It will also serve as an useful taster for anyone interested in our popular full-length course Writing in Health and Social Care, to be run by Victoria Field and Graham Hartill in November.

A Writing Oasis with Victoria Field and Penelope Shuttle
26 - 28 February 2010
Fee: £245 (single room), £215 (shared room)

This course is designed for writers in need of refreshment and for people who may have a professional interest in the therapeutic and transformative benefits of creative writing. Participants will draw on their own wells of experience to create new work - whether poetry, fiction or memoir - and explore techniques for developing these drafts into more sustained pieces. The emphasis will be on process and experiment in a non-judgemental atmosphere.

Working from Experience with Victoria Field and Graham Hartill
15 - 19 March 2010
Fee: £395 (single room), £350 (shared room)

This course will look at how the process of creative writing can promote health and wellbeing. We will be modelling different kinds of sessions. Participants will be encouraged to bring examples from their own writing and practice to share and we will look at how to plan and execute a successful Writing in Health and Social Care project. The course is open to anyone with experience or interest in using creative writing with groups and individuals in health, social care or community settings, and could be used as a follow-up to the popular Tŷ Newydd introductory Writing in Health and Social Care course.

For anyone using literature therapeutically or working towards accreditation, certificates of attendance for CPD purposes can be provided on the following courses: A Writing Oasis and Working from Experience.
