The Festival in the Shire Conference gives attendees the opportunity to hear and meet internationally respected experts on Tolkien’s work. The 2010 conference is entitled ‘Welsh influences on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien’. Speakers will include Jane Chance, Douglas Anderson, Tom Shippey and Alex Lewis together with many other renowned Tolkien specialists.

The conference will consist of keynote speeches, papers on the latest research and breakout sessions with discussion groups. Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the exhibition and fair. It will take place in the historic Y Plas building in Machynlleth previously owned by the Marquess of Londonderry.

Call for Papers: Proposals for papers and presentations are welcome for this three-day celebration of everything Tolkien. Papers and presentations that focus on Welsh influences in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien are especially encouraged, although all proposals related to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien will be considered.

Email your proposal (keep under 500 words) and your contact information to eden@festivalintheshire.com before Friday 1 January 2010.

Tickets bought on the door cost £200.
This includes entrance to the Festival but excludes entrance to the Collectors Exposition.
