Cardiff Central Library
Celebrate National Poetry Day with Cardiff Central Library on Thursday 8 October. To mark this annual day of poetry Cardiff Central Library, with the support of Academi, are encouraging all visitors to get in a poetic mood.
Favourite poems of staff and visitors will be displayed on plasma screens around the library. Large ‘graffiti boards’ will be set up for visitors to write a few lines by their favourite bards or even create a poem of their own. Plus there will be a display of the library’s recent poetry acquisitions.
The main focus of the day will be a workshop and reading from 2006 Wales Book of the Year short-listed poet Ifor Thomas. Ifor, who is from Cardiff, will run a workshop in conjunction with the 2010 Cardiff International Poetry Competition on how to write a prize-winning poem and will also be reading his own work around the library throughout the afternoon.
10.30 am – Poetry Writing Workshop with Ifor Thomas. Free Entry. Register with the library reception on arrival. Contact Academi to book a place.
1.00 pm – 3.00 pm – Keep an eye out for Ifor as he roams the library reading a selection of his own work.
Cardiff's new library is more than a collection of books. It is a modern cultural venue. Light open spaces, vibrant colours and wide expanses of glass offering spectacular views across the city. An exciting environment to read, listen to music, to learn or to just relax and enjoy. Click here for details of opening times and library facilities.
