Saturday 5 September, 7.30 pm
The Drill Hall, Lower Church St., Chepstow NP16 5HJ
 Tickets: £12.00 (£10.00 concs)

On the Border presents an evening to remember on Saturday 5 September when Wendy Cope gives a reading with Sheenagh Pugh at the Drill Hall in Chepstow.

Wendy Cope: is arguably Britain’s most popular poet. Certainly no one else has brought so many people back to poetry with quite the same assurance, wit and elegant clarity. As the late Ted Hughes once put it, she has a knack of whacking the nail on the head when everyone else is trying to hang pictures on it. One of our greatest versifiers, and a wicked parodist, Wendy Cope’s readings are master-classes in the delivery of intelligent yet accessible poetry.

Sheenagh Pugh: is one of the finest poets either side of the border. Her achievements are extraordinary and her list of prizes (including the Forward, Bridport, & Cardiff International Poetry Competition, twice) mark her out as an important voice and true original. She is now widely translated and often on the major literary shortlists. Her crisp responses to intolerance and pomposity are widely admired and her readings are much appreciated for their quiet and mysterious intensity.

This event is an ideal opportunity for those who would like to re-introduce reluctant friends and loved-ones to the broad and vibrant spread of contemporary poetry. You can book tickets online now by going to: www.poetryontheborder.org (there is a reduction for booking online). Alternatively buy in person at The Chepstow Bookshop in St Mary’s St., Chepstow.
