To celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of poetry in the United Kingdom, you are invited to an evening of performance in Brussels. Poets from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will be performing their work through the medium of English, Gaelic and Welsh (with translations onscreen where available/appropriate). The readings will be enriched by conversations about identity and belonging, about speaking and working in so-called minority languages and about literary traditions and practices – how they differ, where they are similar. The focus may be on the UK but these themes and issues will resonate in a Belgian and European context. The poets taking part in the event are: Ifor ap Glyn (Wales), Aonghas Macneacail (Scotland), Antony Dunn (England) and Damian Gorman (Northern Ireland).
The evening will be chaired by Robyn Marsack, Director of the Scottish Poetry Library. This event is being co-organised by the EU Offices of the Welsh Assembly Government, The Scottish Government, the Northern Ireland Executive and the British Council – along with their partners het Beschrijf (the Brussels based Flemish literature agency), the Academi (the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society for Authors), Wales Literature Exchange, Literature Across Frontiers and the Scottish Poetry Library.
